Arrived in Havana in an air conditioned coach, on the steps of the El Capitolio Building we were approuched by a man wanting to take our photo for 2 Cuban Convertable Pasos (£1.25) with a camera made from card board, wood, cellotape, thread bare material and plastic bottles. Here is the result. Amazing I think.

First interview

Posted in Working towards an MA on August 5, 2009 by karenloiswhiteread

Manged to speak to Tony Beckwith yesterday ( Senior Consultant at Haring Woods Assosiates) and have organised an interview with him on Wednesday next week at Haringwoods offices in Covent Garden. I will be asking him :

What it is that their organisation does and what role Artists play within it. How they get funding and does funding criteria impact on the work they do. How do they choose artists for their projects and do they come on board as artist practitioners or as researchers.

I will spend the next few days practising my interviewing techniques and formulating about 10 concise questions for the interview.

The plynth project

Posted in Working towards an MA on August 4, 2009 by karenloiswhiteread

Boring!! http://www.oneandother.co.uk/ Have been looking at the live feed from the Oneandother Plynth project that is taking place in Trafalgar Square this summer and it is like watching paint dry. The concept was very interesting but the people I have seen so far have not engaged me at all. This project will capture a new audience for art but will it reinforce the negaitve perception or will people not see it as art at all, more as speakers corner on a plynth.

Plynth

Have decided that I am not going to be using this project as part of my dissertation research as I dont think it has any relavence to my research questions.

Research

Requested an interview with Blast theory today, and they got a straight back to me (promising Start I think), all artists are on annual leave so they will get back to me next week. read an interview by Hans Ulrich Oburist with Wolfgang Tillmans as recommended by Dan and have decided that I should devise a clear set of questions and then go with the flow depending on the direction of the answers. Tillmans was an artist I had always dismissed as someone who somehow managed to sneak his way into the art world, I eat my my words, very interesting way of looking at things I should take some pages out of his book I think!928421265_3a38740000_o
